Go Green In a Hotel Hideaway
Nearly hidden among the trees, created out of a businessman’s house, with chilies, eggplant and lemon grass growing in the front yard, its roof fashioned from timber salvaged from the old lobby of the Sheraton Hotel in Yogyakarta, the House of Turi in Solo, Central Java, is hardly your typical Indonesian hotel.

rumah Turi was originally a traditional family home located in kampung Turisari in central Solo. Just like typical village houses, this house was comprised of:
- A main building called joglo (semi public area) and a latar (yard for children playing and people interacting with others)
- A garden (kebon) for outdoor activities and grow productive plants, such as vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices (empon-empon), as well as flowers
- A master bedroom(dalem) and children’s bedroom (gandhok)
- An open bathing area (senthong) and paringgitan, which no longer exist in the revamped construction
